Patient Relationships Matter

Kelly* recently came to Obria for a well-woman check with our Nurse Practitioner, Cynthia.  It was her third time seeing Cynthia so a relationship had developed between them. Kelly felt comfortable with Cynthia and confided in her.

She casually said, “By the way, I’m pregnant and have an appointment for an abortion.” Cynthia brought in one of our trained nurses and we offered a medical grade pregnancy test and ultrasound at no charge. Kelly accepted and we performed the tests.

During the ultrasound, we could only detect a yolk sac because Kelly was still so early in her pregnancy. She agreed to come back in two weeks with her boyfriend for another ultrasound.

Two weeks later when the ultrasound was performed, our sonographer confirmed a thriving baby and heartbeat. Kelly and her boyfriend chose Life and she noted, “I never wanted to have an abortion.  I just thought that was what I was supposed to do.”
